Company Profile |
Since the formation of Directflight in 1983, the company has pursued a policy of continuous improvement in order to provide its customers with the highest quality service at a realistic cost. This policy was rewarded on 2nd April 1992 with the award of the contract to operate two F406 aircraft for the provision of offshore maritime surveillance on behalf of the Scottish Fisheries Protection Agency (SFPA). This contract was renewed in 1996 for a further period and extended in 2002 for another two years, terminating in 2004.
In 1998 Directflight successfully bid for a contract to operate a further two F406 aircraft for the provision of aerial surveillance on behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture Fisheries and Food (now DEFRA) covering the English and Welsh waters. This contract is run of out of our base located at Exeter Airport. In order to fulfil our obligations, Directflight purchased one, and modified two Cessna F406 aircraft. During the modifications process the company worked closely with the customer in order to meet the specific requirements of the contract in the required timescales.
Directflight aircraft therefore provided cover for the entire UK in the Maritime Surveillance role conducting low-level fisheries patrol over the sea. The aircrew who fly the aircraft are specialists in this field and at times provide essential support in other areas of surface surveillance including Search & Rescue, Pollution Control and other low level operations.
In June 2003, Directflight were awarded a ten year contract (with a further option to extend to twenty years at year seven) by BAe Systems to operate a modified BAe 146 aircraft on behalf of Facility for Airborne Atmospheric Measurement (FAAM). This aircraft is tasked with undertaking atmospheric research with specialised research equipment and sensors, operated by scientists and system operators. The aircrew operating this contract are extremely well qualified and have a great number of hours experience. The operation is based at Cranfield Airport and flight operations commenced on 12 July 2004.
Company expertise lies in maritime and associated aerial surveillance services, operating aircraft equipped for such tasks with specialised electronic equipment. We employ specially trained Systems Operators with high levels of experience to operate the highly complex systems incorporated to our current aircraft.
In addition to its special mission operations, Directflight offers operational support and training for other operators. Other experience includes postal contracts, charter flights and operation start-ups.
In June 2003 Directflight became part of the Aeromega group of companies. Aeromega was established in 1979. Since then it has developed and diversified to become one of the leading onshore helicopter companies in the UK. Areas of expertise and current operational activity include:
